Sidewalk portion of DOT project continues ...

Work continues on the 2019 Department of Transportation (DOT) Street Project in Waukon with sidewalk removal and replacement on Allamakee Street (pictured in its early stages at right and more complete below two weeks later) heading south toward the Allamakee County Courthouse. As this segment is completed, DOT officials advise that sidewalk work will next shift to West Main Street moving east from its four-way stop sign intersection with Ninth Street West (near Quillin’s) toward the downtown area of Waukon. Curb and gutter replacement is scheduled to take place in conjunction with sidewalk replacement on West Main Street.

Control cabinet circuitry work for streetlight installation is also slated to begin soon with boring taking place near the intersection of West Main Street and West Street SW in the downtown area. The City of Waukon is also currently working on infrastructure updates ahead of the street overlay portion of the project, which is scheduled to start June 1. The timeframe of all the anticipated work is, of course, weather dependent. Standard photos by Joe Moses.
