Lorna Mae Kolsrud was born October 27, 1945 in rural Garnavillo on the farm where her parents, Harold Herbert and Dorothy Irene (Kickbush) Borcherding, were living. She grew up living on various farms with her family in rural Clayton County before graduating from what is now MFL/MarMac High School in Monona in 1963. As a girl she was active in 4-H, did a lot of babysitting, and enjoyed the rural lifestyle.

July 9, 1976, she married Bernard Hunstad Kolsrud at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Lorna worked at the McGregor Electronics and Northern Engraving factories before her children were born and did in-home daycare when they were young. Later she worked for several years in the dietary department at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon until health issues forced her retirement.

Lorna was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she participated in numerous projects and organizations. She liked to quilt and crochet and made a lot of baby blankets. Lorna enjoyed food and collected menus from restaurants all over but was also an excellent cook and baker. She was known for her beef stew and cinnamon rolls and liked to use produce from her garden, be it fresh, canned or preserved. She remained a country girl throughout her life and very much enjoyed rides through the countryside and picnics at Yellow River Forest with Bernard. Lorna loved her family and spent a lot of her time caring for their needs as a devoted wife and mother, as well as taking care of her parents in their later years.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard, of Waukon; her children: Terry (Shawna) Kolsrud of Waukon and Stacey Kolsrud of San Francisco, CA; a granddaughter, Kiah; a brother, Lyle (Judy) Borcherding of Johnstown, PA; and two nephews, Steven and Shane Borcherding. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Honorary casketbearers are Kiah Kolsrud, Lyle and Judy Borcherding, Jim and Marge Harris, Shirley Brainard, Kari Rosendahl and the Northgate Care Center staff. Casketbearers are Dennis and Steven Borcherding, Carson Palmer, Gary Rosendahl, and Gary and Kent Wiedenmann.
