Maggie Kruse
Maggie L. Kruse, 74, of Eitzen, MN died Friday, May 17, 2019 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN with Pastor Michael McCann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon and one hour before services at the church Wednesday.
Margaret Lucille Kruse was born November 5, 1944 in Waukon, the daughter of John and Alice (Sanderson) Herman. She was baptized at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Maggie attended Makee Country School in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1962. Maggie grew up just north of Waukon where Green Valley Getaway is today.
June 12, 1962, she married Delton John Kruse at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Maggie owned and operated Maggie’s Dugout in Eitzen, MN from 1985 until she retired in 2013. She catered many events and was very well known for her potato salad throughout southern Minnesota and northeast Iowa. Even after her retirement she continued to make potato salad and do baking for others and also published a cookbook of her favorite recipes.
Maggie was a member of St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN and was active in its ladies groups. She loved classic country music that she would listen to 24/7. Maggie enjoyed baking, puzzles, playing a good game of cards - especially euchre, and spending time with her family and having her sisters come stay with her. She also enjoyed family gatherings at Green Valley Getaway, and dining with her senior group and their afternoon card games.
Survivors include her daughters: Lynne Kruse of Seattle, WA, Nancy Kruse of Eitzen, MN and Karen (Charlie Bresnahan) Kruse of Spring Grove, MN; two sisters: Shirley (Charles) Rosendahl of La Crescent, MN and Arlene McGuire of Hiawatha; four sisters-in-law: Margaret Herman and Darlena Herman, both of Waukon, and Beverly Meyer and Belva Kruse, both of Eitzen, MN; and two brothers-in-law: Hilman Christianson of Waukon and Norbert (Kathy) Kruse of Dorchester. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delton, who died in 1983; a son, Greg, who died in 2007; a sister, Lillian Christianson; two brothers, Alton and Virgil Herman; and three brothers-in-law, Irv Meyer, Donald Kruse and Larry McGuire.
