Waukon softball team falls at Class 3A 12th-rated New Hampton

In what turned out to be its only competition of the week, the Waukon softball team traveled to New Hampton Tuesday, June 25 for its final road doubleheader of the 2019 season against a Class 3A 12th-rated Chickasaw team sitting in second place in the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) standings and hosting its final NEIC contest of the summer. The Tribe diamond dwellers battled the single-digit loss Chickasaws closely in game one before having that game yanked away, 4-3, with a walk-off solo homerun, but was then limited to just four hits in falling by a 9-2 result in game two.

The Lady Indians were also supposed to host Crestwood Thursday, June 27 for a final Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader of this season but had that date rained out to a Wednesday, July 3 make-up date. Now holding a 13-16 overall record that includes a 4-11 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play, the Indians were next scheduled to wrap up their regular season with a Northeast Iowa Conference game at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, July 2 before making up that June 27 Crestwood home double-dip Wednesday, July 3. The Tribe is  then scheduled to open Class 3A regional tournament play Wednesday, July 10 at Crestwood, with further details of the Lady Indians’ postseason possibilities being printed in a shaded box elsewhere on the sports pages in the July 3 print and e-edition of The Standard.
