Robey Memorial Library preparing to host an abundance of activity for summer programming

Allamakee County residents are encouraged to participate in “A Universe of Stories,” Robey Memorial Library’s summer library program, from July 8 to August 3. Readers of all ages are invited to explore the wonders of the universe and learn about the solar system. Patrons are invited to try something new: learn new facts about space, read a new book, try a new craft, meet new people, and much more.

Special events this summer will include:

• Book clubs: Thursday Night Book Club, Teen Summer Book Club.
• Story Times: Tuesday Story Time, Story Time with Ross, K9 Story Time, Puppy Story Time.
• Movie Matinees: E.T, the extra-terrestrial; Wall-E; Apollo 13; Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy ; and Teen Pizza & a Movie - Mortal Engines.
• Robey Memorial Library at the Allamakee County Fair: Visit the library’s booth in the Pavilion and on Kids’ Day.
• Crafting & DIY: Pinterest Projects, Live & Learn: Beginning Crochet, Make & Takes for Kids and for Teens.
• Table Game Day.
• Summer Explorers.
• Reading Challenge for infants through adults.

Beginning July 8, readers can register for the Reading Challenge. Reading Challenge participants can earn reading rewards including drawings for grand prizes.

Beginning July 10, children and teens can participate in Make & Takes Wednesdays, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Drop in anytime during the two-hour session to make something. Children’s projects include: Watercolor Galaxy, Eclipse Art, Galaxy Jar and Space Goo. Teen projects include: Marshmallow Constellations, Galaxy Magnet, Constellation Jar/Box and Papercraft Orbs.

Robey Memorial Library will offer fine forgiveness for Reading Challenge participants. Children and Teens who register for the Summer Reading Challenge July 8-August 3 can have overdue fines forgiven.

Adults who read at least one book for the 2019 Adult Reading Challenge before August 3 can have overdue fines forgiven. Readers should remind the library staff of their participation. Forgiveness does not include lost or damaged items on a patron’s library account.
