The Waukon baseball team pieced together just its second win streak of the season, wrapping up its regular season and beginning its postseason in victorious fashion this past week. Prior to that streak, the Indians fell to Class 4A Dubuque Senior at the University of Dubuque baseball field Tuesday, July 9 before closing out their regular season like they started it, posting a non-conference win, 13-3 in five innings, at Postville Wednesday, July 10 in a game postponed from Friday, July 5.

Wrapping up its regular season with a 7-28 season record, including a 1-17 finish to place seventh in the final Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) standings, the baseball Tribe then began postseason tournament play in promising fashion, posting a 15-3 home triumph over Clayton Ridge in just five innings Saturday, July 13 in the opening round of Class 2A District 4 play. That first-round win will move the Indians to a Tuesday, July 16 district semifinal match-up at Cascade, with further details of the Indians’ postseason potential being printed in a shaded box elsewhere on the same Sports pages in the print edition and e-edition of The Standard.
