John Conway

John Francis Conway, 59, of Harpers Ferry died Saturday, July 27, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, August 5 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Wexford.

John Francis was born October 4, 1959 to Hugh and Alice (Kernan) Conway in Waukon. He graduated from Kee High School in 1978. John worked as a carpenter and also farmed the family farm. He loved farming and being outside cutting wood.

John was a kind-hearted, soft-spoken and extremely dependable man. He loved his boys with all his heart and never turned down the opportunity to help others in his community. His work ethic stands out to those who’ve known him. Through his faith and love of family, he was driven every day to put in an honest day’s work.

John is survived by his sons, Cory Conway of Des Moines, Justin Conway of Harpers Ferry and Brad (Heather) Conway of Dubuque; one grandson, Aidan Conway of Dubuque; his siblings, Mary (John) O’Neill of Lansing, Daniel Conway of Lansing, Ellen (Robert) Zwirlein of Monona, Hugh (Lana) Conway of McAllen, TX, Michael (Jeanne) Conway of Waukon, Rosalie (Donald) Ripperger of Lacona and Raymond (Diane) Conway of Polk City; a sister-in-law, Sally Conway of Cedar Falls; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Alice Conway; his brothers, James (Sonja) Conway, Joseph (Josie) Conway, Leo (Penny) Conway and Patrick Conway; and three nephews.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
