Saturday, August 17, family and friends of lifelong resident and local “River Rat” Pat Sandry will be honoring his memory with the Second Annual Pat Sandry Memorial Fishing Derby and Friends of Pool 9 Fundraiser held on the Mississippi River. Sandry passed away in November of 2017 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, had a great passion for fishing and hunting, and he truly treasured the beauty of the Lansing area.

Entry fee is $50 per boat with 50% payback in prize money and 50% being donated to Friends of Pool 9. There is a limit of two adults and two children per boat.

Hours of the tournament will be from 6 a.m.-12 noon with weigh-in at Shipwrecked, Shep’s Riverside Patio Bar, starting at 10 a.m. Categories of fish include Bass, Walleye, Bluegill, Crappie, Northern, Perch, Catfish and Roughfish. Only one fish from each category per boat can be weighed.

Boats may weigh a fish from more than one category. Prize money is determined by number of entries.

Entry forms can be downloaded from Shep’s social media presence, picked up at Shep’s Riverside Bar & Grill in Lansing, or participants may sign up in person at Shep’s the morning of the tournament. Make checks payable to: Pat Sandry Memorial Tournament and mail, along with entry form, to: Shep’s, P.O. Box 275, Lansing, IA 52151.

Thanks to the support of everyone who joined in the Fishing Derby last year, the family of Pat Sandry was able to donate a $400 gift to Friends of Pool 9 to help that organization continue its annual programs, reforestation projects and continue its education efforts with youth.
