Summer Evening Programs being offered at Effigy Mounds through the month of October

What do bats, mushrooms, wilderness, the Mississippi River, art, citizen science and mounds all have in common? The answer is Effigy Mounds National Monument Summer Evening Programs. Join Effigy Mounds National Monument every Sunday and Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Effigy Mounds National Monument Visitor Center for fun explorations and intriguing discussions about these topics.

All programs begin at 7 p.m. and are offered through the summer season ending October 20. Attendance is free and reservations are not required. Below are the topics and remaining schedule:

• Wilderness and the American Mind – September 15, October 15: How our relationship with nature developed over time.
• Tiny Superheroes – September 1, September 22, October 6: Bats and the efforts at Effigy Mounds to save them.
• My Mississippi – September 10, September 24: Meander through time on the mighty Mississippi.
• Art and the National Parks – September 8, September 29, October 13: Explore art inspired by America’s National Parks.
• A Fungus Among Us – September 17, October 1: A beginner’s look at mushrooms: good, bad, ugly.
• How to Become a Citizen Scientist – September 3, October 8, October 20: Participants can become an environmental steward in their own backyard.

In addition to the Sunday and Tuesday Summer Evening Programs, Ranger-led hikes to Fire Point are offered seven days a week, twice daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. No reservations are required, just show up and join the hike.

All programs at Effigy Mounds National Monument are free, with no cost to enter the park. The Effigy Mounds National Monument Visitor Center is located at 151 Highway 76, Harpers Ferry and is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
