Marcella Hermeier

Marcella L. Hermeier, 90, of Waukon died Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Memorial services were held Saturday, September 21 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Keith Selberg officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Marcella LaVonne Hermeier was born February 19, 1929 in rural Waterville, the daughter of Melvin and Lola (Davis) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon and graduated from Waterville High School in 1947.

October 21, 1947, she married Oliver Hermeier at the Zion United Church of Christ Parsonage in Waukon. They moved to Waukon for a short time before they started farming in Ludlow Township for four years. In 1959, she and Oliver moved to Waterloo, where she worked for Gale and Ramona Williams. In 1993, Marcella moved back to Waukon and has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since 2015.

She was a former member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and a former member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. Marcella enjoyed sewing, needle work, crafts, gardening, canning and baking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children: Susan Mower of Iowa City, and Terry (Karen) Hermeier and Eugene Hermeier, both of Waterloo; three grandchildren: Kellie (Todd) Means, Amber (Don Parrish) Mower and Chad Hermeier; two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Brady Means; and a brother, Rodney (Evonne) Bloxham of Lansing. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver, who died in 1993; and a son-in-law, Donald Mower.
