Gloria Larson

Gloria (Aspenson) Larson, age 91, of Cresco died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. Funeral Services for Gloria Larson were held Saturday, October 5 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco with Pastor Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Burial took place at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco following the service.

Gloria Ann Lee was born July 15, 1928, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Hegtvedt) Lee. She graduated from Decorah High School. Gloria taught at a one-room school house until her marriage to Don Aspenson in 1948. She resided in Cresco while raising her family with Don.  Gloria was active in the life of First Lutheran Church and her community. Don died in 1986.

After being widowed for five years, Gloria married Walter Larson August 3, 1991, and they resided in Waukon. They enjoyed life together until his passing in 2011. Gloria returned to Cresco to the assisted living to be closer to her family.

Since Gloria was young she enjoyed playing golf, dancing and entertaining. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Gloria was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Many have been blessed by her years of faithfully calling, sending cards and letters, and the prayers she prayed. Gloria’s strong faith and her love for Jesus was reflected in everything she did. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman in the eyes of the Lord and her children. “Her children rise up and called her blessed.” “But a woman who fears the Lord she shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:28, 30)

Gloria is survived by her children: Don (Marcia) Aspenson of Tulsa, OK, Susan Gould of Houston, TX, Dianne (Coit) DuBose of Oklahoma City, OK, Gary (Marlene) Aspenson of Pleasant Hill, Jim (Mary) Aspenson of Wichita, KS, Julie Aspenson of Cresco, Mark (Tami) Aspenson of Waterloo, Janet Blessum of Des Moines, Bob (Wei Wei) Larson of Florence, AL, Pam (Larry Moore) Larson of Harpers Ferry, Craig (Rhonda Gardner) of Howell, MI, Peg Larson of Minneapolis, MN and Jody Larson of Minneapolis, MN; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Keith (Gert) Lee; her brother-in-law, Dean Hagen; and her sister-in-law, Harriet Norland.
