Nyla DeSotel

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Nyla Ann DeSotel, age 87, November 4, 2019. A gravesite memorial is planned for Spring of 2020 near Luana, where her ashes will be interred and her marker unveiled. Date and time will be given when details have been finalized.

Nyla was born August 17, 1932 in Monona to Emil and Irene DeSotel. She graduated from Monona High School in 1949.

Nyla worked as a “lunch lady” at Waukon High School. She then attended Calmar Technical School where she received her Nursing Certificate as an LPN in 1971. She worked for physicians and for Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 1991 and worked as an LPN for Dr. Gidden. She retired in 2000 and returned to Waukon.

Nyla enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and was a very avid reader.

Nyla was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Shirley Jean DeSotel; a brother, Gordon DeSotel; a sister, Darlene Funk; a daughter-in-law, Judy Erb; and a nephew, Mark Funk. Nyla is survived by her six children, Jim (Candy) Erb, Joe (Deb Christensen) Erb, Julie Baxter, Joy (Cary) Moser, Jordin (Christy) Erb and Jay Erb; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
