Ricke Starkey

Ricke S. Starkey, 68, of Waukon died Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville with Karla Johnson officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour before the services Saturday at the church and also after the services during a lunch in the church basement. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Ricke Stan Starkey was born October 9, 1951 in Postville, the son of Norman and Beulah (Bray) Starkey. He was baptized at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Postville and graduated from Monona High School in Monona. November 19, 1972, he married Kathleen Hinman at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon. Ricke worked for Iowa Turkey Products in Postville for several years, Cabela’s in Prairie du Chien, WI, and then went to work at Agriprocessors in Postville before he retired.

He was member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville. Ricke enjoyed working on lawnmowers, snow blowers, and listening to old country music, especially Lil’ Dale and the Legends. He loved his cats, Boomer and Miss Kitty. Ricke was a good man with a big heart and always willing to help out other people in need.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Starkey of Waukon; a brother, Jerry (Dixie) Starkey, Sr. of Dubuque; three sisters, Marilyn Meyer of Castalia, and Beverly Johnson and Janice Dougherty, both of Waukon; two sisters-in-law, Kim Hinman and Crystal (Lil’ Dale) Sweet, both of Luana; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lynn and Bradley (Kim) Starkey; his father- and mother-in-law, James and Dorothy Hinman; and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Dougherty and Dale Johnson.
