Waukon girls basketball team turns tables late for 60-52 win over North Fayette Valley

The Waukon girls basketball team ended up with just one game on its schedule this past week, as a late-week snow storm claimed a Friday, January 17 home game with New Hampton. The lone Indian contest of the week was a Monday, January 13 home game with North Fayette Valley. Trailing their North Fayette Valley guests throughout a majority of the ballgame, the Indian basketball girls put together a fi nal 16-7 surge over the game’s fi nal fi ve minutes to grab the lead and pull away to a 60-52 non-conference victory over the visiting TigerHawks. The three-point and free throw lines helped the Lady Indians clinch that comeback win, as 14 of the Tribe’s final 16 points of the ballgame came from either of those stripes at a nearly equal split. The Tribe will then play the top two teams in the Northeast Iowa Conference, playing at Crestwood Tuesday, January 28 before hosting Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, January 31. The Indians currently hold an 8-5 season record, including a 3-3 mark in Northeast Iowa Conference play to currently sit in fourth place in the season standings.
