Shara Cota and Madelyn Moser to be introduced as Fair Royalty Team at Thursday night performance of The Caminos

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing significant adjustments to most all events planned for this summer, the 167th Allamakee County Fair has certainly been no exception. Although many county fairs have been canceled altogether or dwindled to a much smaller version of what they traditionally have been, the Allamakee County Fair Board has been striving to provide the best possible variety of events and entertainment within the limiting guidelines put in place as a result of the ongoing pandemic virus.

One of the Allamakee County Fair’s more recent traditional events, the Fair Queen Contest, is being modified a bit for several reasons, but is still being retained as part of this year’s festivities. Fair Board officials say that due to the Iowa State Fair not having a Queen Contest this year, it has been decided to have just an Allamakee County Fair Royalty Team and not select a Fair Queen.

This year’s Fair Queen Contest had two entries registered. Shara Cota of Harpers Ferry and Madelyn Moser of Waukon will now serve equally as the Allamakee County Fair Royalty Team.

Fair Board officials say the two Fair Royalty Team members will be participating in many of the same roles as past Fair Royalty Team members have, passing out trophies at livestock shows and making various appearances at events during the fair and throughout the upcoming year. Photos and biographies of both Shara Cota and Madelyn Moser are printed at right.

Both young ladies will be introduced as this year’s Fair Royalty Team during the Thursday, July 9 musical performance by The Caminos. That concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will take place in the large grassy area near the center of the Allamakee County Fairgrounds, in front of the Pavilion building.
