Waukon Inn opens in new location just north of Waukon on Highway 76

First Dollar Visit for Waukon Inn at its new location ... Waukon Inn, now located within the Northeast Iowa Equity Sales Commission facility at 1645 State Highway 76 North two miles north of Waukon, recently received a First Dollar Visit from the Waukon Chamber of Commerce following its relocation from its previous Rossville Road location in Waukon. Pictured above at that First Dollar presentation are, left to right, Waukon Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors member Tyler Halverson, Waukon Inn owner Roberta Palmer, and Waukon Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Leddia Tallman. The Waukon Inn, owned and operated by Roberta Palmer, has recently opened for business once again at its new location. Following the sale of its long-time building location on Rossville Road in the southern part of Waukon, Palmer relocated the Waukon Inn within the kitchen and dining facility at the Northeast Iowa Equity Sales Commission located at 1645 State Highway 76 North approximately two miles north of Waukon.

Palmer has been self-employed in the dining business since 1997. She and her husband live in Luana but have been involved in the business for the past 23 years. “We’ve really been looking forward to seeing everyone again,” Palmer shared in regard to opening at her new location.

Being directly involved herself in the hands-on operation of the business and the family atmosphere is what Palmer feels makes the Waukon Inn so unique. “Our staff is friendly and our customers are more like family to us,” she said. “We love the people of Waukon, and we have many family members and friends here.”

Palmer says the closings and limitations dealt to area businesses throughout most of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been the greatest challenge to her so far in running her own business. As the economy continues to slowly recover from that shutdown, she has been open for business at 7 a.m. each day, Monday through Saturday, and she hopes to again be open Sundays in the future.

The Palmers have three grown children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They also have three dogs who the Palmers say are like a second set of their own kids.

Although the Waukon Inn’s new location is right within the Northeast Iowa Equity Sales Commission facility, it is always open to the general public as well during its hours of operation. For more information about the Waukon Inn, call 563-794-1316 or email robertapalmer81@gmail.com.
