The Waukon volleyball team’s first venture into Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play also resulted in its first loss of the season, as the Indian netters fell to Decorah at home Tuesday, September 8 in straight sets by scores of 17-25, 13-25 and 18-25. The Indians managed 17 kills in the match but gave away nearly a full match worth of points with their 21 hitting errors while the visiting Vikings pounded away for more than a match worth of points at the net with 28 kills.

The Indians traded exchanges with Decorah through most of set one, playing to just a 15-17 deficit, but the Vikings rattled off seven straight points on the way to a final 2-8 outscoring of the net Tribe to take set one, 17-25. The early exchange saw sophomore Berlin Troendle knock down an early kill for the Indians’ first point before senior Margaret Wacker hammered out three winners at the net to keep the Indians within a 9-10 deficit. Troendle and Wacker each battled at the net for additional kills to help the Tribe stay within that 15-17 margin before Decorah’s final flurry sealed the Indian defeat.
