Main Street Lansing to offer one-on-one business coaching

The year 2020 has been an unprecedented time to be a small business owner; each month seems to offer a new challenge for small business owners to overcome. To help businesses continue to move forward, Main Street Lansing is excited to offer virtual one-on-one business coaching to any business within the Main Street Lansing program boundaries (or, in the case of potential start-up businesses, any business that intends to locate within the Main Street Lansing program boundaries).

This coaching is absolutely free of charge due to Lansing’s status as a Main Street Iowa community; this program normally costs $300 annually per person. The service, called the Small Business Lab, is offered through a partnership with Main Street Iowa, Main Street America and the Rural Ideas Network.

The Small Business Lab lets a business owner talk to small business experts about a wide range of topics that businesses have to deal with every day. Topics can include, but are not limited to, new jobs, streamlining the business, expanding a customer base, websites, start-ups, increasing sales, diversifying a product line, advertising and overcoming obstacles.

Coaches hail from a variety of business sectors, which allows business owners to talk to someone who has experience with their specific business, from retail to overnight lodging to restaurants to service businesses. Those interested can schedule a session at a time that works for them, and they could have a coaching session as soon as the next day. Business owners can sign up for as many or as few coaching sessions as they’d like.

“We’re proud to be one of the first communities in Iowa to offer this service to our businesses,” said Andy Kelleher, Executive Director of Main Street Lansing. “While we try to offer business trainings that apply to a wide variety of businesses, we hope that this one-on-one coaching can address more specific and immediate needs within the business community.”
