Katarina Kovarik helps two Decorah swim team relays qualify for State Meet in total of eight total events that qualify

The Decorah High School girls swim team has qualified a total of eight events for the 2020 Iowa High School State Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing within the top qualifying efforts at their regional swimming meet completed at Dubuque Hempstead High School Saturday, November 7. Six Waukon High School young ladies have been swimming for the Vikings this season, including seniors Ella Hermeier and Alexis Hogan, junior Elly Christen and sophomores Maycie Curtin, Katerina Kovarik and Grace Stegen.

Of those eight total events that qualified for this season’s grand finale, two of them are relay events, with both of those relay events including Waukon High School sophomore Katarina Kovarik swimming the third leg for the Vikings. Kovarik teamed up with a trio of fellow sophomores, Paige Werner, Maeley Nefzger and Julia Alberts, to record a fourth-place qualifying finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in a time of 1:43.17. Kovarik also teamed up with Werner, Alberts and junior Grace Bachelder to finish fifth and also earn State Meet qualification  in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in a clocking of 3:48.80.
