Kee volleyball team plays to 4-12 record during challenging 2020 campaign

The Kee volleyball team played its way to a 4-12 record during its 2020 campaign, including a mark of 1-7 in Upper Iowa Conference play that placed the Lady Hawks seventh in the final league standings. Even though those win-loss results may indicate the strength of the Hawks’ opponents on the court this season, on the court was not the only place where the Kee netters faced difficult challenges this season, as the COVID-19 pandemic posed an entirely different set of problems for all high school volleyball teams.

“Trying to keep everyone healthy and away from positive cases in the county,” Kee volleyball coach Amy Peterson said of the greatest challenge beyond the other side of the net. “We had a couple of players that had to quarantine, so it meant changes in rotations that athletes weren’t used to.”

In addition to the health and safety concerns the pandemic virus posed, limiting exposure to COVID-19 this fall also took its toll on teams’ schedules, including the Hawks’ 2020 slate. With just one weekend tournament late in the season and most weeks involving just one match on the schedule, half of Kee’s schedule ended up being Upper Iowa Conference match-ups.
