Waukon and Kee girls basketball teams match up to begin 2021 portion of their schedules; Waukon records 55-42 win

The holiday break came to an early end for both the Waukon and Kee girls basketball teams, as the two intra-county opponents took to the court together in Lansing Saturday, January 2 to begin the 2021 portions of their schedules. The larger school Indians used their team depth and aggressive nature to build double-digit leads in each of the game’s two halves, but also had to hold off some late Hawk charges in each of those halves before coming away with the 55-42 Waukon victory.

Improving to a 5-1 overall record that includes a mark of 3-1 in Northeast Iowa Conference play, the Waukon basketball girls will face a full week of competition with three games, beginning with a trip to Class 4A seventh-rated Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, January 5 before hosting Turkey Valley Thursday, January 7 and then playing at New Hampton Friday, January 8. The Lady Indians will then play at North Fayette Valley Monday, January 11 and Crestwood Tuesday, January 12 before hosting Oelwein Friday, January 15.

Now holding a 2-6 overall record, 1-4 in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Kee girls will head into an even busier schedule, playing four games this week that were scheduled to begin Monday, January 4 at Clayton Ridge and at South Winneshiek Tuesday, January 5 before hosting back-to-back games to end the week, as West Central comes to Lansing Friday, January 8 and Postville will then do likewise Saturday, January 9 to make up an earlier postponement. The Lady Hawks will then be idle from competition for nearly a week, not taking the floor again until Friday, January 15 at Central Elkader.
