The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced the honorees to be recognized at its Sixth Annual Iowa 4-H Legacy Awards Gala. The Legacy Awards celebrate Iowa 4-H and recognize those who have made a significant impact on the program.

This year’s all-virtual event will take place Friday, February 26. A special interactive showcase presented by current 4-H members kicks off the evening’s event at 6:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony beginning at 7 p.m.

Throughout the evening, four supporters of the 4-H Program will be honored. Among those honorees is Waukon High School senior Diana Davison, who will receive the Contributing Youth Award.

Davison’s award information notes that she is an Allamakee County 4-H’er who lives by the motto “Take the risk or lose the chance.” Heavily involved in 4-H, she has taken the opportunities provided by the 4-H Program and run with them. She discovered her love and talent for photography and is now pursuing it as a career. She includes other 4-H’ers as she honors veterans with the Quilts of Valor project and gained the confidence to become Iowa Teen Miss United States Agriculture 2020.

Also being honored during this year’s virtual Gala event are the Iowa Pork Producers Association, Des Moines with the Corporate Partner Award; The family of Marvin and Linda Mahr of Indianola, Larry and Barbara Mahr of Oregon, WI, Loren and Carol of Indianola and Roger and Marilyn Mahr of St. Charles, IL with the Individual Supporters Award; and Cristen Clark of Runnells with the Outstanding Alum Award.

“Though we’d much rather be together in person, celebrating the Legacy Awards honorees will be the next best thing,” said Emily Saveraid, Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director. “We look forward to sharing the stories of this year’s honorees, raising vital funds to support the Iowa 4-H Program and setting a vision for the future of the Foundation.”

Dollars raised during the Gala event support the Iowa 4-H Foundation’s mission to fund 4-H youth programs delivered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and to provide other opportunities - state recognition, national 4-H trips, college scholarships and special programs, which enhance the Iowa 4-H experience. Ticket and sponsorship options allow virtual attendees to participate from the comfort of their own home. More information on the Gala and registration can be found at www.iowa4hfoundation.org/awards. The event is presented by Iowa Farm Bureau, Kemin Industries and Nationwide.
