Lansing City Council holds property tax levy public hearing

The regular meeting of the Lansing City Council was held Monday, March 1. The meeting discussion centered around the consent agenda, an open public hearing, citizens’ concerns and the City Clerk’s report.

The consent agenda consisted of council meeting minutes from February 15, payment of claims, Parks Board minutes from February 7, and liquor license renewal for Shep’s Riverside Bar & Grill. A motion was made and seconded to approve the consent agenda.

An open public hearing for maximum property tax dollars started at 7:03 p.m. and ended at 7:05 p.m. to review and consider Resolution #947 approving fiscal year 2022 maximum property tax dollars, with no public comments read or heard. A motion was made and seconded to approve the resolution.

Citizens’ concerns reviewed and considered burying utility lines from 901 North Front Street to 1091 North Front Street in the boulevard, per Paul Styve. Members of the council are going to check with Alliant Energy, Century Link and Mediacom to see if there are any underlying problems as well as other questions that the members of the council had presented. The council will move on with this concern as time permits.

The Parks report discussed considering the Boy and Girl Scouts running the City ballpark concessions stand for the summer season, as well as review and consider running an advertisement for lifeguard positions. There will be an ad running in The Standard listing pool positions.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the Parks report.

The Clerk’s report reviewed and considered setting the public hearing date for the Fiscal Year 2022 budget for Monday, March 15 at 7:05 p.m. A motion was made and seconded to set the public hearing date for March 15. A motion was made and seconded to approve the Clerk’s report.
