Residents reminded that property taxes are due by March 31

Allamakee County Treasurer Lori Hesse would like to remind property owners the second installment of property taxes is due by Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Those payments may be made at the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office at 110 Allamakee Street in Waukon between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Taxpayers are reminded to bring their tax stubs with their payment to insure proper credit. To avoid penalty on the second installment, payment must be received in the Treasurer’s Office before Thursday, April 1, 2021. Due to social distancing requirements, only two customers will be allowed in the office at one time.

E-check and credit card payments are also accepted online at www.iowatreasurers.org. Anyone paying by E-check will need their receipt number. That receipt number can be found on their tax statement.

For convenience, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards are accepted in the Treasurer’s office for payments on taxes and motor vehicle registrations.  There is a $2 fee for using a debit card. The credit card companies set the fees charged for using their credit cards. It is the same fee as charged on the internet payment system.

A drop box is also located in the courthouse north parking lot for payments to be dropped off. As a vehicle exits the parking lot, the box can be found on the left.

Elderly Credit or Rent Reimbursements: Those who are at least 65 years of age as of December 31, 2020 or totally disabled and have a total household income of less than $24,206.00 might be eligible for additional tax credit on their homes. The deadline to sign up for this is Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Contact the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office for more information at 563-568-3793 or email the office at treasallamak@co.allamakee.ia.us.

The last day to pay taxes in the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office to avoid having a name in the delinquent tax newspaper publication is Friday, May 14, 2021. Unpaid taxes will be offered for sale at the Annual Tax Sale to be held Monday, June 21, 2021.
