Work begins on 2nd Street NW Street Improvement Project ...

Signs and other traffic control measures have been placed on 2nd Street NW and some adjacent streets in Waukon as work begins on that street improvement project that will also involve some storm sewer work. With the signs pictured in the two photos at right being placed at 2nd Street NW’s intersections with 8th Avenue NW (top photo) and 4th Avenue NW (bottom photo), work being completed in that area may sometimes allow for traffic to travel through the area and at other times will close that portion of the street completely down as the project progresses.

The storm sewer work to be completed as part of the project will involve a small bit of pipe replacement to allow for better flow, as well as some improved and additional storm sewer intake areas that will also involve portions of the adjacent streets of 5th Avenue NW and 4th Avenue NW to allow for better drainage. Once the storm sewer work is completed, those street areas will receive an asphalt overlay. The project is expected to be completed by the end of August, according to the engineering firm overseeing the project.
