Meehan Memorial Lansing Public Library to host Remembering Civil War Veterans of Lansing program

“Remembering Civil War Veterans Of Lansing, Iowa and How They Helped Form What Lansing Is Today” is the topic of a program being held Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Meehan Memorial Lansing Public Library. The public is invited to attend, or to share a story of Civil War ancestors.

There are around 50 Civil War Veterans buried in Oak Hill Cemetery and at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing about which nothing was known, until now.  Through researching old newspapers on http://lansing.advantage-preservation.com/, library staff was able to put together some of their stories. The public is welcome to help celebrate the lives of these men and Lansing’s heritage.

Those who have a Civil War Veteran in their ancestry are welcome to share their story to be included in the presentation. Contact Meehan Memorial Lansing Public Library Director Derva Burke at library@lansing.lib.ia.us or call 563-538-4693 for more details.
