Arden Dickson

Arden C. Dickson, 75, of Postville died Sunday, November 27, 2022 at his home in rural Postville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Postville with Fr. Martin Coolidge officiating. Inurnment will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon at a later date. Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Arden Carl Dickson was born March 27, 1947 in Waukon, the son of Howard Carl and Melva Elaine (Henderson) Dickson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Arden graduated from Waukon High School in 1965, and he served in the United States Navy from 1966-1970 as a medic doing rescue missions during the Vietnam War.

November 15, 1968, he married Sandra Kay Wilson in Porterville, CA. They had three sons: Steven, Scott and Troy. Sandra passed away in 1996. Arden was an independent truck driver for several years, driving throughout the United States. He also lived in California and the Philippines.

He was baptized in the Catholic church and was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Postville. January 31, 2004, he married Brenda Villarta at St. Bridget’s. In 2008, they bought the Spice-N-Ice Liquor and Redemption Center, which later became Postville Redemption in 2018.

He took pride in his vegetable garden, freezing the veggies and sharing them with his friends and family. Arden loved to cook and experimented with new dishes that he saw on the numerous cooking shows he watched. An avid fisherman, Arden also loved going fishing every weekend during the summer and would try to go every chance he could get.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Dickson of Postville; his three sons: Steven (Michelle) Dickson of Waukon, Scott (Deb Lemere) Dickson of Clear Lake and Troy Dickson of Waterville; four grandchildren: Andrew and Cullen Dickson, and Nya and Silas Duran; two brothers, Roger (Diane) Dickson of Freeport, IL and Randy (Lois) Dickson of Middleton, WI; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Dickson of Appleton, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sandra; and two brothers, Kenneth and Larry Dickson.

Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren. Casketbearers are Steven, Scott, Troy, Roger and Randy Dickson, Steve Halverson, Stan Looney and Daryl Schultz.
