Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. Pamela Smidt

Pamela J. Smidt, 61, of Platteville, WI died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22 at the United Methodist Church in Platteville, WI, with Rev. Brenda Whitford officiating. A memorial/graveside service followed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and Cemetery.
Pam was born November 25, 1952 in Postville, the daughter of Leo and Jean (Shafer) Flage. She was united in marriage to Warner Smidt February 7, 1976 at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, rural Postville. She graduated from Postville High School and from Iowa State University with her bachelor's degree in child development. She was a teacher for the Head Start Program since 1975. She did take time off to raise her three daughters as well as doing some daycare.

Bernice Coorough

Bernice I. (May) Coorough, 94, of Janesville, WI, formerly of Prairie du Chien, WI, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at her home in Janesville. WI. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 9 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, WI. Interment immediately followed the visitation at the Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien, WI.
Bernice, the daughter of John L. and Matilda (Torgerson) Dahly, was born May 17, 1920 in Center Township, Allamakee County. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1938. Bernice was united in marriage with Merlin May February 15, 1943 in Chicago, IL. Merlin preceded her in death May 4, 1969.
Bernice was then united in marriage with Raymond Coorough June 17, 1972 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, WI.  Ray preceded her in death January 15, 1993.

Dorothy Swain

Dorothy Lorraine Swain, age 91, of Janesville, WI died December 2, 2014 at her home. A graveside service and burial will be at a later date at the East Paint Creek Lutheran Synod Church Cemetery in Waterville.
Dorothy was born May 9, 1923 at rural Waterville to Hjalmer H. and Ellinora (Bakkum) Swain. Dorothy graduated in 1941 from Waterville High School, attended Waukon Junior College and Minneapolis Business College. She was a resident of Minneapolis, MN, working as a legal secretary 20 of her 40 years at Peavey Company.

Bernard Snitker

Bernard H. Snitker, 88, of Waukon died Monday, December 1, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 4 at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon, with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Bernard Henry Snitker was born May 26, 1926 in Postville, the son of Daniel and Elsie (Flage) Snitker. After graduating from Postville High School, Bernard worked on his parents’ dairy and hog farm.
June 24, 1948, he married Bernice Larsen at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon. They were blessed with four daughters. The couple purchased an 80-acre farm in Ludlow Township in Allamakee County and raised a dairy herd of registered and grade Brown Swiss cattle and also did hog farrowing and finishing.

Doris F. “Mikie” Ewing, 96, of Postville died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 22 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, with Rev. Gary Catterson as the officiant. Interment was held in the Postville Cemetery.

Doris Frances, the daughter of Claude and Ruby (Thornton) Bacon, was born April 12, 1918 in Clayton County. She attended country school and later NICC (Area One) in Calmar.

Lois (Weber) Crumbaugh

Lois Ann Crumbaugh, 81, of Cedar Rapids died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Cedar Rapids Saturday, November 22, 2014 following a short battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m Wednesday, November 26 at the church.

Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
