COSTA RICAN INTERN TASTES LIFE IN MIDWEST

Few young adults have the opportunity to travel as Lil Quesada, 19, a native of Costa Rica, has experienced.
A second year student of the University of Costa Rica, Quesada is serving an internship at Impro Products, Inc. in Waukon, exploring, she says, the field of genetic biology. Though her major is in mathematics, Quesada says she is entertaining the thought of changing that focus to biology, with an emphasis in genetics.

RACHEL REISER WINS 3000 METER DISTRICT TITLE, IS LONE STATE QUALIFIER FOR INDIAN TRACK GIRLS; INDIANS FOURTH AT WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK INVITATIONAL

All but one member of the Waukon Indian girls track team will be competing in their final meet of the season this Thursday, May 11 at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet in Charles City. With that NEIC meet being the final team meet on this year's schedule, the Monday, May 8 Class 2A District Track Meet the Indians competed in extended only the season of senior distance runner Rachel Reiser to this year's state track meet.

INDIAN GOLF GIRLS ARE NEIC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!! FINISH 5-1 IN NEIC DUAL MEETS

The Waukon Indian girls golf team is the Northeast Iowa Conference champion for the 2000 season.
After finishing the NEIC dual meet season with just one loss - that loss coming Monday, May 1 in the Tribe's final NEIC dual of the season against Oelwein by a 179-181 final, the Indian golf girls blew away the competition at this year's NEIC Tournament, which was held at Oelwein Monday, May 8. The Tribe had four of its six golfers earn All-Conference honors at the meet, making for a relatively easy win over second-place Decorah by nearly 20 strokes.

INDIAN BOYS GOLF TEAM TURNS IN LOWEST ROUND OF SEASON FOR WIN OVER CALEDONIA, FALLS AT OELWEIN

A split of two dual meets this past week by the Waukon Indian boys golf team leaves the Tribe linksters with a 6-3-1 overall record on the year, including a 2-3 mark in the Northeast Iowa Conference. The Indians turned in their best team effort of the season in defeating Caledonia at home Tuesday, May 2 by a 152-159 result, but couldn't get by a young Oelwein squad Thursday, May 4 at Oelwein, falling by a 153-164 final. That Oelwein meet had been rescheduled from Monday, May 1 due to a scheduling conflict.

Firmin Erding

Firmin Erding, 90, of Waukon, died April 30, 2000, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held May 4 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Waukon under the direction of Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg. Burial was in St. Pius - Cherry Mound Cemetery of Waterville.
