Large group of seniors will lead 2014-15 Waukon girls basketball team as veteran assistant Andy Sires takes head coaching reins

The Waukon girls basketball program will look to make a fresh start as its 2014-2015 season gets underway, but still with a considerable amount of familiarity in its personnel. Andy Sires will assume the head coaching role of the program for the first time, but brings with him the assistant coaching experience from the past 13 seasons that have included some of the most successful basketball played in Waukon High School history.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity,” Coach Sires said of his new leadership role at the head coaching helm. “Hopefully, I can take some of the things that I’ve learned over the years and apply it to the players we have to put our most complete team on the floor.”

What Coach Sires inherits involves a bit of familiarity in itself, as all but three of last season’s team members return from last season’s squad. Just three seniors led last year’s team to an 8-12 overall record, but that senior leadership will more than double this season, as seven upperclassmen all return from last year’s campaign.
