Waukon High School to perform "Guys and Dolls" for November 5-7 fall musical

Waukon High School will be presenting the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical ‘”Guys and Dolls” as its fall musical this year. Performances are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, November 5-7 at 7 p.m. each evening in the Waukon High School auditorium. This year, the musical is directed by Ethan Adams, with assistance from Louise Wild.
Set in the hustle and bustle of the 1940s in New York City, the story captures romance and humor about fancy-talking gamblers and the "dolls" who love them. All the hot gamblers are in town, and they're all depending on Nathan Detroit (played by Zach Troendle) to set up this week's incarnation of "The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York". The only problem is, he needs to come up with $1,000 to secure the location.
Throw in Sarah Brown (played by Leah Riese), who's short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson (played by Adam Gruman), who accepts Nathan Detroit's $1,000 bet that he can't get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana, Cuba; Miss Adelaide (played by Annika Wahlberg), who wants Nathan Detroit to marry her; and Police Lieutenant Brannigan (played by Aaron Sherman), who always seems to appear at just the wrong time.
Additional cast members include Nicely Nicely Johnson (Dolan Jones), Arvide Abernathy (Matt Hoins), Benny Southstreet (Nathan Smith), Rusty (Alexis Bahr), Harry the Horse (Kameron Klinge), Big Julie (Tanner Manning), MC/Mimi (Katelyn Leiran), General Cartwright (Carley Sweeney), and chorus members Katelynn Griffith, Hunter Seigenthaler, Heidi Dougherty, Emily Hammel, Grace Blocker, Carver Conway, Matti Pladsen, Molly Johnson, Emily Kolsrud, Taya Duehr, Allison Sletten and Aleah Howes, with Emily Brown serving as stage manager.
“Guys and Dolls” is based on the short story "The Idyll of Sarah Brown" with characters by Damon Runyon, and it features a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, and an iconic score by Frank Loesser that includes songs such as “Fugue for Tinhorns,” "Luck Be A Lady," "Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat," "If I Were A Bell," and "A Bushel and a Peck."
