by Jason Meyer
The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met Monday morning, December 28 at 9 a.m.
Speaking before the Board was Carson Eggland, Executive Director of Helping Services of Northeast Iowa. Eggland asked the Board to consider a $1,500 funding request for Fiscal Year 2017, the same amount the group has requested for a number of years. He outlined services provided by Helping Services in Allamakee County, including domestic abuse counseling, substance abuse prevention, mentoring services, and family education programs.
The Supervisors thanked Eggland for his presentation, noting that he was the first in-person funding request received for the upcoming budget cycle.

The Board also approved a Resolution setting the date for Notice of Bid Letting and Public Hearing for the Allamakee County Public Safety Center, to be published in the January 6, 2016 issue of The Standard.
Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. the Supervisors will open all received bids, after which time the contractor will review the bids for completeness, and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. Then, Monday, January 25 at 11 a.m. the Board will hold a Public Hearing to make the award.

Finally, County Engineer Brian Ridenour asked approval to hire Brice Wood as a new full-time Secondary Roads Crew Leader to supervise the Luster Heights crew, and perform other tasks as required. Ridenour stated January 12, 2016 would be the start date at a rate of $17.82 per hour. Wood has a number of years experience in the wind turbine industry in a similar crew leader position.
The Supervisors approved the request pending a successful pre-employment physical.

In other business, the Supervisors approved plat requests from Steven W. and Sarah L. Holler, and the Richard A. Bennett Trust.
