Allamakee County Board of Supervisors sets new meeting time for 2016

by Jason Meyer

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors began 2016 with its reorganization meeting Monday morning, January 4, 2016 at 9 a.m.
County Auditor Denise Beyer called the meeting to order, asking the Board to appoint the Chairperson and Chair Pro-Tem for the year. Supervisor Larry Schellhammer retained his position as Chairperson, as did Supervisor Dennis Koenig in the role of Chair Pro-Tem.
Schellhammer then assumed the floor heading in to regular business. The Board approved the agenda for the day, and the minutes from December 28, 2015.
With no public comments, the Board moved in to actionable items on the agenda. First at hand was the setting of the meeting day, start time, and public comment time. Supervisor Dan Byrnes moved to set the meeting time to 9:30 a.m. instead of 9 a.m., and reduce the public comment time from fifteen minutes to 10. The Board passed the motion unanimously, and the new meeting time will take effect at the January 11 meeting.
Furthering their annual business the Board re-approved their 2015 appointments, and the claims due dates and pay dates. They named The Standard and the Postville Herald as the official newspapers; left the mileage reimbursement at 40¢; left the meal per diem at $25 with itemized receipts; and left the coyote bounty at $5 per hide, and the gopher bounty at 50¢ per pair of paws turned in at 10 pars at-a-time.
In the final piece of reorganization business, the Board tabled all appointments to county boards and committees until all boards, outgoing individuals, and potential appointees could be contacted.

In new business, the Board approved a conditional change in health insurance coverage for married employees of the county. Prior to the change the County paid a set rate to each employee for the 'single' county-provided plan, under the new option, however, if both spouses are employed by the county they may now elect the 'family' plan and the County will continue to contribute the single amount to each employee.
