Iowa caucuses to be held February 1, Voter registration available at caucus sites

Registered Republican and Democrat voters across the state have the opportunity to participate in Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses Monday, February 1. Those who choose to participate in the caucuses will not only choose presidential candidates for this year's election, but will make their voices heard as both political parties formulate their campaign platforms. Nomination petitions for other state and national elected offices will also be considered by caucus goers.
To attend a caucus, voters must be registered as either Democrat or Republican, but registration will be allowed at each of the caucus sites. Caucus locations for both political parties for the February 1 event are featured in the bordered boxes.

Democratic candidates for the 2016 presidential nomination include Hillary Clinton, Martin O'Malley and Bernie Sanders. According to the Allamakee County Democrats, the purpose of a Presidential Year Precinct Caucus is to:
1) Form preference groups and elect delegates and alternates to the County Convention.
2) Discuss and adopt proposed resolutions to be added to the county platform.
3) Elect Precinct Committee Persons to the County Central Committee.

Republican candidates for the 2016 presidential nomination include Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio,  Rick Santorum and Donald Trump. According to the Allamakee County Republicans, Presidential Year Precinct Caucuses perform the following functions:
1) Elect two persons, Republican residents of the precinct, to serve on the County Central Committee.
2) Elect delegates and alternate delegates to the Allamakee County Republican Convention held Saturday, March 12.
3) Propose and vote on platform planks to send to County Convention.
