Letter to the Editor: Head out to the Caucus Monday, February 1

To the Editor:
On Monday, February 1, 2016, participation in the Democratic Party precinct caucuses will provide the best way to be active in forming the party’s platform and agenda, and will be critical in the role Iowa plays in the nomination process for the President of the United States. Coming together with fellow friends and neighbors from all different backgrounds to fight for the values that are important to our communities is what the spirit of the Iowa caucuses is all about.
These values reflect the core Democratic belief that government works best when it works for the common good: that America, Iowa, and our communities are stronger when we invest in people, reward hard work, and build a strong middle class.  We stand as the party for all people, and support the right of all people to be treated fairly and equally under the laws of this nation. We support families in their desire to become healthy, educated, and contributing citizens. We support and honor our military and veterans in war and peace. We support parents, students, and educators in their quest to achieve high standards and to make education a top priority. We support independent farmers and small businesses in their pursuit of prosperity and economic security. We support the elderly, disabled and poor in their need for dignity, income and health care security. We support the people of the earth in working to achieve a responsible, prosperous, and sustainable existence with nature. We believe in and will continue to work for a truly representative government that works for the good of ALL people in a compassionate, responsible and progressive way.
Involving Democrats now will build a strong grassroots organization for the November elections and will ensure we have volunteers and supporters in every part of the state. A successful caucus will show that Iowans are united by our common desire to continue to move Iowa and our nation forward and ensure every family has the opportunity to succeed. Let’s caucus together on February 1st to show that Iowans stand behind Democrats’ progressive fight for Iowa’s and our nation’s future.
