Kee basketball girls wrap up regular season, win first-round regional game to advance to Friday's semifinals

The Kee girls basketball team wrapped up its regular season in fine fashion, improving to a six-game winning streak on the way to a second-place finish in the Upper Iowa Conference with a 50-40 home victory over North Fayette Valley Monday, February 8. The game had been rescheduled by winter weather from its original February 2 date. The Hawks followed the end of that regular season with a 52-33 home triumph over Central Elkader in the opening round of Class 1A regional tournament play Tuesday, February 16 to begin the Hawks' travels down this year's postseason tournament road.
The final regular season win and postseason-opening win improve Kee to a season record of 20-2 overall, including a 13-2 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play that placed the Hawks second behind the only team to beat them this season, undefeated and top-rated Turkey Valley. The now fifth-rated Kee ladies are next scheduled to play Dunkerton in Class 1A regional semifinal action this Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. at West Central High School in Maynard.
Friday's winner will advance on to the regional finals Monday, February 22 at Cedar Falls High School, also beginning at 7 p.m., with that regional finals opponent being either North Tama or Lynnville-Sully. The regional champion will advance on to the Class 1A State Tournament to begin Monday, February 29 in Des Moines.
