Waukon Police Department reports results from recent sTEP wave surrounding Memorial Day holiday

The Waukon Police Department is reporting the following results from its participation in the latest sTEP (Special Traffic Enforcement Program) wave, which took place throughout the weeks surrounding the Memorial Day holiday, from May 23-June 5, throughout the state of Iowa:

Operating While Intoxicated - 2 arrests
Seat belts - 1 citation, 11 warnings
Speeding - 1 citation, 53 warnings
Stop sign/light violation - 5 warnings
Driving without license - 1 citation
Registration violation - 3 citations, 17 warnings
Open container - 1 citation
Other traffic violation - 1 citation, 23 warnings
Equipment - 1 citation, 21 warnings
No proof of insurance - 1 citation, 14 warnings
Narcotics arrest - 3
Motorist assist - 4
Interdiction/Canine search - 2
Accidents investigated - 4.

A seat belt survey conducted during the sTEP wave noted 276 observations and 239 in compliance (86.6%) prior to the wave. A post-wave survey observed 218 motorists, with 191 of those (87.6%) being found in compliance.
