Helen Dixon

Helen J. Dixon, 89, of Waukon passed away peacefully with her family at her side Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, April 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon.

Helen Jeanette Dixon was born August 1, 1927 in Allamakee County, the daughter of George and Veronica (Schwartzhoff) Waters. She received her education in the Waukon school system. November 16, 1946, Helen married Bill Dixon at St. Mary’s Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Helen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon.

All her life she was a strong-willed pioneer woman; she enjoyed working on the farm with Bill. Helen also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was always up for a game of cards, bingo, or an occasional trip to the casino. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her children: Joseph (Andrea) Dixon of Elk River, MN, William, Jr. (Joyce) Dixon of Castle Rock, CO, Mary (Jerry) McCabe of Waukon, Rita (Mike Schrandt) Dixon of Freeport, Jim Dixon of Waukon, Tom Dixon of Decorah, Kelly (Alan) Wuennecke of New Albin, Kevin (Jenny) Dixon of Waukon, Shawn (Sondra) Dixon of Marion, Colleen Dixon of Grand Junction, CO and Kerry (Shelly) Dixon of Brownsville, MN;  her grandchildren: Eric, Ryan (Frannie), Brady, Justin, Audra, Troy (Chris), Kramer, Noah, Joshua, Blake, Abby, Levi, Carly, Alice, Tara, Molly and Callie; her great-grandchildren: Avery, Logan, Brooklyn, Jordyn, Luke, Max, Isaac, Chloe, Gabbi, Gavin, Claudia and Stella; a sister, Leonette Troendle; her brothers: Earl, Ralph, Danny and Donald Waters; and two sisters-in-law: Shirley and Ellen Waters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; an infant son, John; four brothers: George, Bill, Floyd and Ronald Waters; and three sisters: Evelyn Peters, Kate Kirkeby and Delores Lundsford.

Honorary casketbearers were Abby, Alice, Audra, Carly and Tara Dixon, and Callie and Molly Shea. Casketbearers were Eric, Ryan, Brady, Troy, Luke, Kramer, Noah, Blake and Levi Dixon, and Joshua Wuennecke.
