Beverly Meiners

Beverly M. Meiners, 88, of Caledonia, MN passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, MN. Funeral services were Tuesday, April 25 at St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN with Rev. Michael McCann officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Beverly was born March 6, 1929 in Newport, KY to Emerson and Marie (Klein) Burkhardt. After graduating from high school in Newport, KY, she attended and graduated from Schauffler College of Religious Education and Social Work in Cleveland, OH. Beverly was one of the first women to start the Vacation Bible School Program at St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN. It was during this time she met Berdell Meiners.

August 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Berdell in Newport, KY. Beverly continued to be an active member of St. Luke’s Church in Eitzen, MN serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, training new Sunday School teachers, and serving as president of the Women’s Fellowship. For many years, Beverly headed up the Women’s Retreat Bible Study which involved many different churches.

She also helped Berdell on the farm milking cows and feeding sows among other things. She was even featured on the cover of the Farm Woman News Magazine in the March of 1985 edition. Beverly enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and researching genealogy. Beverly was a member of the Portland Prairie PDQ, (patching, darning and quilting) and the Wilmington Homemaker’s Group. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Berdell; four children: Richard and Lynn, Melvin and Janice, Beth and Bruce Wedde, and Bruce and Peggy; nine grandchildren: Jenny, Richie, Michelle, Deborah, Christine, Danielle, Denver, Emily and Rachel; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Switzer; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother-in-law, Bob Switzer.
