Betty A. DeBuhr, 91, of Waukon died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial was at Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials can be made to Veterans Memorial Hospital or Salem Cemetery Fund, both in Waukon.
Betty Ann DeBuhr was born November 9, 1925 in Waukon, the daughter of Luella Selberg. She was baptized at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Betty graduated from Waukon High School in 1943 and attended Waukon Junior College. Betty worked at Hale's Clothing Store in Waukon before she was married.
January 2, 1948 she married Victor DeBuhr at Salem United Church of Christ. The officiant at the ceremony was Victor’s uncle, Rev. Edmond DeBuhr. Betty worked for Howards Home Furnishings in Waukon before owning and operating Candlelight Gifts.
Betty was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she was active in ladies circles and sang in the choir. Later she became a member of Zion United Church of Christ where she was also active in ladies circles. Betty was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Waukon Golf and Country Club, and several card clubs.
Victor and Betty enjoyed taking their boys on yearly fishing trips to northern Wisconsin and then later traveling across the United States and Hawaii. She very much enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with family (playing cards).
Survivors include two sons: Gerry (Karen) and Dennis (Linda), both of Waukon; and three grandchildren: Cory (Jen) DeBuhr and their children, Kenzie and Harper, Jeff (Niki) DeBuhr and their children Calvin, Kira and Abby, and Dana (Derek) Johnson and their children, Hattie and Victor. She is preceded in death by her mother and her husband, Victor, who died in 1989.
Honorary casketbearers were Betty’s Canasta and Bridge Club players. Casketbearers were Keith Selberg, Cory and Jeff DeBuhr, Derek Johnson, Dave Martin and Bill Blagsvedt.
