Earn IFCA “Of the Year” honors ...

The postseason honors keep filing in for the Waukon football program after the Indians played to a Class 2A State Championship with a 12-1 season record in 2017, the program’s first-ever State title. The Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) recently released its season honors, naming Waukon High School head football coach Chad Beermann (photo above) the IFCA Class 2A Coach of the Year and Waukon football senior Mitchell Snitker (right photo) the IFCA Class 2A Player of the Year.

The first-ever State Championship for Waukon football was also the first-ever State Championship for Coach Beermann in his 22-year football head coaching career, the first 17 of those being at Valley CEW High School in Elgin. Snitker ranked second among all 11-player classes in points scored with 264 this season. He rushed for 2,066 yards and 27 touchdowns, and caught 23 passes for 324 yards and six more touchdowns. On defense, he accumulated 38 tackles, intercepted six passes - returning one for a touchdown - and recovered two fumbles - also returning one of those for a touchdown. He will be featured in the IFCA Football Yearbook.
