And then I wrote...

... that this is being written on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and I don’t know where he is buried, but watch for some grave spinning.

Because his dream has not been realized. In fact, in some respects, it seems things have gotten worse in the racial relations arena.

Just the week before the MLK anniversary, the president was accused of using intemperate language in reference to some African and Hispanic nations from which individuals are migrating to the United States.

And about that same time, Nancy Peiosi of the U.S. House of Representatives displayed racial bias in referring to the makeup of a group of elected officials, calling them “white” almost a pejorative.

In some ways, things have gotten a little better for minorities, with recent news stories noting that unemployment among those groups is at the lowest level in years. And there probably is a high percentage of minorities included among those given bonuses or hourly pay raises following that recent tax reform legislation.

But some of the things MLK warned against, such as Balkanization, continue, and while he advocated non-violence, there has been considerable violence associated with some events.

Also painful to note is the thought that electing the first mixed race president of the United States would put an end to the charge of racial bias. It has not, and in fact, things obviously have gotten worse.

There is a theory that in the tides of nations, there is often a clock pendulum effect. That is, once things have gone one way for so long, the pendulum will swing back and reach its max arc on the other side. But what we really need is some way to get that pendulum to come to rest in the middle without stopping the national clock.

A funny. I heard a story that one of the president’s men, noting that there had been no “tweets” from the president yet that day, asked: What’s the matter? Cat got your thumb?

Proof that I am not up to date on current celebrities. From another room I thought I heard someone on radio making reference to Chelsea’s handler. Gee, I thought, has Hillary’s daughter gone so far off the deep end she needs a handler? Turns out there is a B-list celeb named Chelsea Handler.

Exeunt omnes, as Shakespeare directed.
