Eileen Felton

Eileen Felton, age 87, of Northfield, MN, formerly of Waukon, passed away Tuesday evening, March 6, 2018 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16 at Northfield United Methodist Church, Northfield, MN. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. A meal will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be in Portland Prairie Cemetery, Eitzen, MN at a later date.

Eileen Lapham Felton was born February 15, 1931 in Caledonia, MN to Grant and Mabel (Albee) Lapham.  She was raised on the family farm on Portland Prairie and attended a rural school. She graduated from Caledonia High School in 1948 and attended Hamline University and received her teaching degree at La Crosse State College (now University of Wisconsin - La Crosse).

August 25, 1951, Eileen married Gilbert J. “Gib” Felton at Caledonia Methodist Church. After marriage they lived in Harmony, MN for one year before moving to Waukon. Eileen taught in Waukon elementary schools for 32 years, retiring in 1992. In 2001, Eileen and Gib moved to Northfield, MN.

Eileen was a member of Northfield United Methodist Church and was a former active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon. Over the years she participated in P.E.O., Order of the Eastern Star, Allamakee Education Association and several Bridge Clubs. She was involved with the Allamakee County Historical Society - assisting with the restoration of the old courthouse into a local museum, and a member of the Allamakee County Sesquicentennial Commission. She enjoyed travel, quilting and socializing with family and friends. Eileen was true to her beliefs and an advocate for women’s issues.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Gib; three children, Sharon (Clyde) Reynolds of Lincoln, IL, Maribeth (Paul) Beck of Northfield, MN and Grant (Tracy) Felton of Maple Grove, MN; seven grandchildren, Wesley (Katie) Reynolds, Katy Reynolds, David Beck, Kristin Beck, Taylor Felton, Carlye Felton and Mackenzie Felton; one great-granddaughter, Lily; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Lapham of Caledonia, MN and Lois Lapham of Olathe, KA; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Lyle Lapham and Kent Lapham.
