Lester Delaney

Lester R. Delaney, 93, of Waukon died Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 31 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:45 p.m. scripture service.

Lester Raphael Delaney was born August 30, 1925 in Lafayette Township in rural Lansing, the son of John “Joe” and Cecilia (Conway) Delaney. He was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church in rural Lansing. Lester attended elementary school at Wexford and Russell country schools and graduated from Harpers Ferry High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

August 29, 1946, he married Mary Revoir at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church. Lester worked for the Department of Transportation in the Allamakee County area for over 29 years. He and Mary owned and operated the Dari-O for three years. Lester also worked at Pladsens, Inc. in Waukon in the parts department.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the American Legion and VFW. Lester enjoyed working in his garden, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughters: Mary Kay Martin and Karen (Perry) Norton, both of Waukon; three grandchildren: Michele (Mike Conway) Martin, Brian Norton and Nikki (Luke) Greazel; five great-grandchildren: Mike and Jordyn Burroughs, Anna Norton, and Rylie and Tyler Greazel; three brothers: Mark (Margie) Delaney, Joseph Delaney and Pat (Aileen) Delaney; a sister, Delores (Bob) Mooney; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, who died in 2016; an infant son, Ralph; an infant granddaughter, Christine Norton; a son-in-law, Harlan Martin; a sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle (John) Egan; a brother, John Delaney; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Aelred (Dorothea) Delaney and Martin (Helen) Delaney; and a sister-in-law, Lore Delaney.
