Celia Darlene Garrett was born November 15, 1939 in Waukon, the daughter of Otto John and Selina Clarinda (Megorden) Sander. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Waukon High School. November 23, 1957 she married Francis Jesse Garrett.

After a few years, Celia and Francis embarked on a 40-year entrepreneurship business in real estate and construction that is still a thriving family business today.

Celia had a great life and being a wonderful wife and mother came natural to her. According to Francis, she was born a “looker” but never took it for granted. She mentored her family and friends by example in the way she treated everyone she met with love and respect. She had a single-minded focus of looking for the positive in everything, never having a bad word to say about anyone.

Celia was a gracious hostess, spent much of her time making sure all those around her had what they needed, was generous to a fault, and carried out all of her activities with her own sense of style and grace. Her presence will be greatly missed but her influence will live on forever in the lives of those she loved.

Survivors include her husband, Francis, of Lansing; her children: Marsha Kurth of La Crosse, WI, Gail (Bob) Meyer of La Crescent, MN, Scott Garrett of Surfside, CA and Matt (Amy) Garrett of Waukon; 10 grandchildren: Selina (Cory) Quandahl, Adam (Jessica) Kurth, Garrett Kurth, Jesica (Andy) Melde, Justin and Jarrett Meyer, and Avery, Max, Sydney and Skylar Garrett; 15 great-grandchildren; her brothers-in-law, Tom (Karla) Garrett and Ron Garrett; her sister-in-law, Lois (Roger) Fox; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
