James “Jim” Hawes

James “Jim” Francis Hawes, 84, of Wexford died Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, May 20 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wexford with Rev. John Moser, Monsignor Cletus Hawes, Rev. Donald Hawes, Monsignor Ed Lechtenberg and Rev Mark Osterhaus as the concelebrants. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

James Francis was born May 18, 1934 to Edward and Lila (Guider) Hawes on the family farm, rural Wexford. He attended country school and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Lansing.

Jim was united in marriage with Catherine ”Kay” Ann Callahan November 26, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford. He farmed his entire life and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford. Jim loved spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by the many people who knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kay Hawes of Waukon; five children, Don (Julie) Hawes of Montfort, WI, Ed (Mary) Hawes of Waukon, Dianna (Stan) Schwartzhoff of Lansing, Pat (Mary) Hawes of Potosi, WI and Suzanne (Jeff) Gardner of Hudson; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Joe Hawes; his parents, Edward and Lila (Guider) Hawes; and his siblings, Norbert, Marguerite, Ray, John and Mary Rita.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
