Kee softball team splits first two postseason games to have season ended; 16-0 win over Postville followed by 8-2 quarterfinal loss to Turkey Valley

Hauling one in and looking for another ... Kee softball senior shortstop Makayla Walleser latches on to this fly ball for an out while surveying opposing baserunners to prevent any advancement in the Hawks’ 8-2 regional quarterfinal loss at home to Turkey Valley Wednesday, July 10. In her final competition for the Hawks, Walleser swatted a single to drive in a run and also gave up just one hit in pitching the last three innings. Photo by Macie Hill. The Kee softball team both began and ended its postseason journey within a couple days, the softball Hawks splitting their first two games in Class 1A Region 7 tournament play to have their 2019 campaign brought to a close in the quarterfinal round of their postseason path. The Lady Hawks first opened the tournament with a 16-0 rout of winless Postville in just three innings at home Monday, July 8 before suffering their first loss to Turkey Valley since the 2013 season, an 8-2 home defeat in the Class 1A Region 7 quarterfinals Wednesday, July 10.

That regional quarterfinals loss wraps up Kee’s softball season at an overall record of 22-18 that includes a 14-2 mark in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play that placed the Hawks second, just in front of Turkey Valley and its 11-5 UIC mark and behind the only team to beat the Hawks in UIC play this season, the 15-1 TigerHawks of North Fayette Valley. Turkey Valley’s defeat of the Hawks earned them a Friday, July 12 date at third-rated Clarksville in the Class 1A regional semifinals, where the Trojans had their 2019 season brought to a close with a 4-0 defeat.
