Shirley Aure

Shirley M. Aure, 78, of Waukon died Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, where she has been a resident for many years. Funeral services were held Friday, November 8 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Shirley Marie Aure was born January 25, 1941 in Waukon, the daughter of Helen Aure, and was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon. Shirley attended Fan Country School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1960.

She worked as a waitress at the Model Cafe and the Soda Grill, both in Waukon. Shirley received her CNA license and worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon for several years. She also worked at TASC in Waukon. Shirley was a resident at Makee Manor before moving to the Good Samaritan Center.

She was a lifelong member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, where she was very active in its ladies groups and loved attending church services. Shirley enjoyed singing, dancing, playing games and reading to the residents at Good Sam. Shirley also liked her Hershey Kisses and dipping cookies into coffee and milk. She always had a big smile for you whenever you saw her.

Survivors include her siblings: Phyllis (Bob) Waters and Sandi (Bob) Reinke, both of New Albin, James Evanson of Waterville, Mary (Bill) Bleckwehl of Northfield, MN, David Evanson of Waukon, Steven (Sheryl) Evanson of Waterville and Linda (Bob) James of Grants Pass, OR; 14 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-nephew; an aunt, Lillian Larson of Waukon; and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Melbourne Evanson; a sister, Nancy Evanson; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Evanson.
