Strong crowd and donation support for Holiday Train visits in Lansing...

Large crowds greeted the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train at both its stops in Lansing and New Albin Sunday afternoon and evening, December 8, as depicted in the surrounding photos. Those attending were treated to musical entertainment by country music artist Meghan Patrick, soul singer Tanika Charles and singer/songwriter Kelly Prescott, along with other holiday activities put on by community members, businesses and organizations.

Canadian Pacific presented a donation check to the food pantries serving each of the communities hosting a Holiday Train stop, with a donation of $4,000 to be shared by the Lansing Iowa Food Trust (LIFT) and the Allamakee County Food Shelf in Waukon presented at the Lansing stop (photo at right) and a donation of $4,000 to the Way Station in New Albin presented at the New Albin stop (photo at right). In addition to the proceeds donated by Canadian Pacific, those in attendance also made both monetary and food donations at each stop. Visitors to the Lansing event donated 1,466 pounds of food and just under $1,500 in cash donations, with those amounts being evenly split between the Allamakee County Food Shelf and LIFT. The New Albin Holiday Train event yielded 745.5 pounds of donated food and $6,100 in cash donations from the public in attendance (some of that generosity evident in the photo below).

The photos from the Holiday Train’s visit to Lansing pictured above were taken by the team of Alexis Johnson and Evan Lenz, and the photos of the New Albin event were taken by Standard assistant editor Joe Moses.
