Wayne Thorstenson

Wayne A. Thorstenson, 82, of Waukon, died Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services were held Sunday, January 5, at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon handled the arrangements.

Wayne Allen Thorstenson was born May 24, 1937, in Waukon, the son of Eilert and Charlotte (Jacobson) Thorstenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, and attended Jefferson #5 country school in rural Allamakee County, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1955. On May 31, 1958, he married Ronda Forkner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Wayne worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Allamakee County Secondary Roads, hauled milk for Waterville Creamery, Holland Brothers in Decorah, where he was given the nickname of Stubby, and C.J. Moyna and Sons in Elkader as a machine operator and mechanic.

He was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, Rossville Snowgoers Snowmobile Club, and Waterville Volunteer Fire Department. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, and friends and looked forward to teasing them. He also enjoyed hunting, following NASCAR and watching motor cross especially his son Eric.

Survivors include his children: Debra (Tim) Thrower of Clover, SC, Terri Thorstenson of Waukon, and Eric (Stacy) Thorstenson of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren: Erica (Kyle) Moritz, Matthew (Caity) Fransen, Ryne (Kimberly) Hartkemeyer, and Cade and Adalyn Thorstenson; six great-grandchildren: Lauren and Ben Moritz, Jamie Fransen, Bradley, Evan, and Lucas Hartkemeyer; two sisters: Eunice (Robert) Kolsrud and Karla Honn both of Waukon; a brother Dean (Juanita) Thorstenson of Waterville; and a sister-in-law Linda Thorstenson of Cedar Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ronda who died in 2019; an infant sister Ida Ann; and a brother David Thorstenson.

Honorary casketbearers were Wayne’s grandchildren.
